51ĀŅĀ× generated $469.7 million in added income for the regional economy in fiscal year 2023-24.

This impact supports around 6,318 jobs in the region, meaning one out of every 33 jobs is supported by 51ĀŅĀ×. A comprehensive study conducted by Lightcast highlights the college’s contributions to economic growth and workforce development in Bay, Midland and Saginaw counties.

ā€œWe view the college as being more than an institution for higher education. It’s also a cornerstone of economic and social progress for the communities we serve,ā€ expresses Dr. Michael Gavin, president of 51ĀŅĀ×. ā€œIn addition to over 140 established degree and certificate programs, we provide workforce training and community access to facilities like the planetarium in downtown Bay City, the newly built Delta Dome Observatory and the recently renovated Fitness & Recreation Center on our main campus.ā€

The Lightcast study shows the broader impact 51ĀŅĀ× has on society —and it’s impressive! For every $1 invested in 51ĀŅĀ× $10 in benefits is generated, including increased earnings across the community, reduced crime rates and improved public health, further highlighting the tremendous value 51ĀŅĀ× brings to the region.
