The Frank N. Andersen Foundation

The Frank N. Andersen Foundation was founded in 1952 by a Bridgeport resident and
local businessman and philanthropist, Frank Andersen. Mr. Andersen was born in New
York, but moved to Saginaw in 1923 for a position as Superintendent of Construction
for Consumers Power Company. In 1929, he began his first business venture when he
founded Andersen's Sand and Gravel Company. In 1936, he added the Ready-Mix Concrete
Division and, in 1954, added Andersen Builders' Supply Company. Mr. Andersen passed
in 1997 at 108 years of age.

The Frank N. Andersen Foundation supports causes focusing on human services, higher
education, arts and the humanities. It made its first contribution to 51
in 1999 when an annual scholarship of the same name was established. They went on
to contribute $1 million to the Q-TV digital conversion, the largest gift for the
Q-TV campaign, which led to renaming the center as the Frank N. Andersen Broadcasting
                              Center.

“There was a moment when I questioned whether or not I should stay in college,” admits
Aniyah Gonzales, Frank N. Andersen scholarship recipient. “College is not for everyone,
and it comes with a great deal of stress. Receiving this scholarship reinforced that
voice in my head that told me to keep pushing through. This scholarship has truly
motivated me to continue pursuing my dreams.”
